The Bucharest Spa is a true oasis of relaxation, perfect for unplugging and enjoying a moment of well-being. The Palm area is undoubtedly the most spectacular: the indoor pool is beautiful, especially in the evening when it is illuminated with plays of light that create a magical and relaxing atmosphere. The outdoor pools are also a highlight: whirlpools, warm water, and a pool bar where you can sip cocktails while admiring the sunset...truly an experience to remember! The mineral pools complete the spa experience by offering additional benefits for body and mind. The Galaxy area is also very interesting, with a variety of well-maintained and relaxing themed saunas. I highly recommend booking tickets online and choosing the option with access to The Palm, to get the most out of the experience. An absolutely recommended stop if you are in Bucharest: it is the perfect place to relax, both in summer and winter.

A great moment of relaxation, enchanting. Just happiness. We took advantage of the restaurant where we ate well. Everything was simple and easy, and the drinks in the pools offer a moment elsewhere. I'll do it again if I find this kind of aquatics.

The places, the guide who made himself available. I did not like the change of plans from the tickets for the castles that we had paid for and booked and instead we were told the day before that it was no longer possible to enter the castles with those tickets that we would have to redo them on our own and in fact we did not find a place in Peles but in Pelisiov. The 'bus that was previously supposed to pick us up at the hotel no longer came and we also learned this the day before.

The audio guide on the bus was very informative, the actual guide Roxana was very friendly and knew lots of extra facts. It was good to have stops at the petrol station to stretch your legs after lots ot time on the bus. We would've liked a little more time in all of the places to take in the absolute beauty of the castles and city but its understandable as its a long day already. Definitely recommend this tour to anyone, we loved it.

Top things to do in Bucharest

Peles Castle | A royal fairytale in the Carpathians

Nestled in the mountain town of Sinaia, Peles Castle was the summer residence of Romania’s first king, Carol I. With its Neo-Renaissance turrets, stained-glass windows, and lavishly decorated halls, the castle feels like a page from a storybook. Inside, discover hand-carved woodwork, priceless artworks, and themed rooms inspired by European cultures, all set against the dramatic backdrop of the Carpathian Mountains.

Things to know before you buy your Peles Castle ticket

  • All Peles Castle tickets are valid only for the selected date and time slot. You’ll need to choose your preferred entry time when booking, and admission is only permitted during that slot.
  • Lines can get long, especially on weekends, public holidays, and in the summer months (June to August). With skip-the-line tickets, you can bypass the ticket desk and head directly to security, though you may still face a short wait to enter during peak hours.
  • The castle has more than 160 rooms, each richly decorated in different European styles. Opting for a guided tour helps you make sense of the lavish interiors, themed halls, and royal treasures, while also ensuring you don’t miss key highlights such as the Hall of Mirrors, the Imperial Apartments, and the arms collection.
  • For a seamless experience, consider a day trip from Bucharest that includes Peles Castle along with nearby landmarks such as Bran Castle and Brașov. Transport, entry tickets, and a guide are often bundled together, saving you time and planning hassles.
  • Please note that photography inside the castle requires a special permit that can be purchased on-site. Without it, taking photos indoors is not allowed.
  • Peles Castle is partially wheelchair accessible. While the ground floor can be visited step-free, upper levels may be difficult to access due to the historic layout and limited elevator access.

A royal retreat in the Carpathians

Commissioned by King Carol I in the late 19th century, Peles Castle was Romania’s first royal summer residence. Blending Neo-Renaissance elegance with German influences, it sits against the dramatic backdrop of the Carpathian Mountains. From its turrets and stained-glass windows to oak-panelled halls, the castle radiates both grandeur and warmth.

Lavish interiors from around the world

Step inside more than 160 rooms, each designed in a different European style,  from the Venetian Room with Murano glass chandeliers to the Turkish Salon draped in silk and carpets. The castle’s exquisite wood carvings, frescoes, and crystal mirrors showcase craftsmanship at its finest. Don’t miss the Hall of Mirrors and the king’s private library with its secret passageway.

Treasures of a modern monarch

Peles was the first European castle fully powered by electricity, and its collection reflects King Carol I’s vision of progress and culture. Discover medieval arms and armor in the Weapons Room, admire fine porcelain and tapestries, and see the royal art collection that spans centuries and styles. Every detail speaks to the king’s passion for innovation and refinement.

More than just a castle

Beyond the main palace, you can stroll the landscaped terraces, visit the nearby Pelisor Castle, built for King Ferdinand and Queen Marie, or simply soak up the alpine air in Sinaia. With its mountain setting, royal history, and storybook architecture, Peles Castle offers not just a tour, but an immersive journey into Romania’s past.

Peles Castle highlights

The Hall of Honour - This is a Photograph of crafted woodwork

The Hall of Honour

Holul de Onoare (The Hall of Honour) was completed under the direction of Karel Liman, in 1911 and encompasses three levels. Exotic woods and European walnut are used primarily to decorate the walls with superbly crafted woodwork. Retractable stained glass panels, bas-reliefs, and statues made of alabaster finish the decoration.

The Grand Armory

1,600 pieces of armour and armament are kept in Sala Mare de Arme, also known as ‘The Arsenal’. This exhibit features one of Europe's best collections of hunting and combat weapons from the 14th-19th centuries. The king increased several pieces utilised in his triumph over the Ottoman Turks during the War of Independence.

The Florentine Room

The Sala Florentine (The Florentine Room), incorporates numerous revived aspects of the Italian Renaissance, primarily from Florence. Most spectacular among these are the solid bronze doors made in Rome, the Luigi Magni ateliers, and the grand marble fireplace made by Paunazio with Michelangelo patterns.

The Imperial Suite - This is a Photograph of Apartamentul Imperial

The Imperial Suite

The Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I, who visited the castle as a friend of the Romanian Royal Family, is thought to have been honoured with Apartamentul Imperial (The Imperial Suite). The rarest of such quality is a five-hundred-year-old Cordoban tooled leather wall cover that is immaculately preserved.

Ceramics exhibition - This is Photograph of pieces of porcelain

Ceramics exhibition

Over 5,000 pieces of porcelain, floor tiles, and faience from the finest 19th-century European ceramicists and centres are on display at the ceramics exhibition. The Peles Museum acquired subsequent artefacts from both private owners and antique shops during 1970. It was founded between 1914 and 1927 by Queen Marie.
